Each of us has an inbuilt need to be loved, to be “found” by someone who cares for us, by someone who values who we are. God has created a deep place within everyone – a place to receive His words “I love you … just as you are … and you are precious to me”.

God gave me this song which speaks of what He has done to find me, to wash me in love and to set me free! What a joy it is to know Him in that deep place, to be in His presence … my response is to sing “I worship, exalt You. Let my heart song bless You Jesus!”

When I arrived home from surgery on 12 December, my heart was overflowing with peace and joy. The Healer God had blessed me with a successful procedure. I sat at my keyboard to bless Him for His goodness to me and a new song flowed to honour the One who came to save!

In this season of the approaching celebration of Christmas and Jesus’ coming into the world to live among those He created, there is an awe and wonder about the Gift of Love that God delivered on that first Christmas Day. As I celebrated the peace and joy that God had imparted to me through the healing surgery, I imagined what it would have been like to have been one of the shepherds or one of the wise men who visited the Christ child to honour the coming of the Saviour.

There in a humble stable, the King of the universe was born – poor in appearance despite the riches of His kingdom, and dependent on His earthly parents and the heavenly angels as He encountered life with us in a largely hostile world that mostly did not recognise Him. There, an infant in a manger was destined to take on the greatest mission of all time – to obediently go to the cross and die in the place of every person that has or ever will live!

So, in this season of Christmas, we honour the Child King, Jesus, the One who came to save. These lyrics express a sense of holiness, awe and wonder about the first Christmas!

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement during the past three weeks. Due to my unexpected hospitalisation and surgery on the 15th November, I was not able to lead the Streams of Worship service at O’Connor Uniting Church in November. The time of rest and recuperation has, in itself, been a wonderful blessing after the work pressures of the past year. I thank God for you and your encouragement at this time as I await the next round of treatment on 12th December. In the meantime, I thank God for His healing hand and I look forward to leading the Streams of Worship service at Tuggeranong Baptist Church on Sunday 6th December.

Holy is Your name

Psalm 103 begins with “All my inmost being, praise His holy name”. This is what God desires … for us to worship Him with all that we are! At the time this song was written, God was revealing afresh just how high and how deep and how wide His love is for you and me.

In the year that this song was written, I came to know Joe. He is a worship leader with a huge heart for God. As we spent time together and shared our passion for worship, Joe encouraged me to be more and more open to the Holy Spirit in leading worship.

As Joe led worship, he would lead, not from centre stage, but from the side as a way of saying “the worship leader is not the centre of attention … God is!” I’ve adopted the same position … I like to have the cross placed centre stage and to have the band and singers with me at the side … worship is about centering our focus on God.

How blessed we are … that He calls each of us His own! We are His favoured ones … sons and daughters whom He loves unreservedly. These lyrics express a sense of awe about God’s holiness and majesty … and that He alone is worthy of our praise and adoration!
